National Cadet Corps (N.C.C)

VISION

Empower volunteer youth to become potential leaders and responsible citizens of the country.

MISSION

To develop leadership and character qualities, mould discipline and nurture social integration and cohesion through multi-faceted programmes conducted in a military environment.

Brief History of N.C.C.

After the First World War (August 5, 1921), the Indian Defence Force (IDF) was replaced by the Indian Territorial Force (ITF), of which the University Training Corps (UTC) forms a very important part. The UTC units were raised primarily with a view to obtain the recruits for the Officers Posts in Territorial Battalions. During Second World War, the government of India appointed a National Cadet Corps Committee during 1946 under the chairmanship of pt. Hradaya Nath Kunjru. Later on the National Cadet Corps (NCC) came into existence on 16 July 1948 under an Act of Parliament. Its motto ‘Unity and Discipline’ has guided the NCC in its long-standing effort to mould young volunteers into disciplined and responsible citizens of India. Over the years, in response to the evolving environment, the NCC’s initial military orientation was augmented by dimensions of social service and adventure training. India is on a high growth trajectory. If we are to fully realize our potential we must develop training areas that can instill vigour in the young and bolster their confidence whilst retaining a sense of purpose, honour and patriotic service. The NCC ideal: ‘Empowerment of Youth’, betokens our commitment to work for a healthy, prosperous and strong India. The aim of NCC is to Experience Military life.
