Biotechnology

The PG Course leading to two years M.Sc. degree in Biotechnology of SRTMUN was initiated in the Department of Biotechnology, Dayanand Science College, Latur (DSCL) in the year 2010. The Department of Biotechnology has regularly been conducting various Workshops, Guest lectures, webinars, Special days’ celebrations, Industrial visits, and Hands-on trainings for providing a common platform to the students and faculties who are involved in studying and pursuing research. These events also aimed at building a network, sharing expertise, and facilities in Biotechnology. The activities and performances of the department have been recognized by the stakeholders and the public in general, especially during the period of the Covid-19 pandemic. Conducting seminars, webinars, expert lectures, and field visits for the students enable them to develop their self-confidence, strength in the subject knowledge and skill in operating modern equipments for biotechnological applications of resource materials, etc. The students are thus making themselves employable and useful. The art of Infrastructure facility and talented teachers combinedly made the progress of the department distinct in the college. Students and staff sincerely undertake various co-curricular, extra-curricular, and research opportunities at college, university, and national levels bringing laurels speak about such endeavors. The department has extended its facilities and strength to make a modest beginning of B.Sc. Biotechnology program from the academic year 2021-22. The department has set more ambitious objectives and goals for its near future too to achieve a special status in the minds of all.

The Department has a total of four laboratories viz. Microbiology, Biochemistry, Plant tissue culture, Food Biotechnology with latest equipments/instruments, and Bioinformatics Laboratory (with internet facility). The department faculties have also been contributing to high-quality research in different areas of Biotechnology and have impressive record of publications. Department of Biotechnology also promotes the students to participate in various competitive events e.g. AVISHKAR, ANVESHAN, Oral and Poster presentations, etc. to present their hypothesis or preliminary results of projects and get exposure to progressive advanced technologies. As the students in the Department are from different cultural backgrounds, we celebrate various festivals, the Birth/death anniversary of Scientists by organizing different competitions (quiz, street play, bio poetry, flash card, etc.) and cultural programs to make students learn Biotechnology in a joyful way.
